Pulitzer Center grantee Janelle Richards will receive the First Decade Award from the Columbia University School of Journalism, a special honor that recognizes the alum's contributions to the journalism profession during the first ten years after graduation. An Emmy-nominated producer at NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Richards travelled to Kenya earlier this year through a Pulitzer Center grant to report on challenges women face in Africa's emerging technology industry

She will officially receive the award at the Columbia University Journalism School's alumni weekend held April 20-21, 2018.
