Until recently, the prevailing opinion among scientists was that early human settlement in Greenland was extinguished by a cooling climate in the 15th Century. But in a feature story for Science Magazine, grantee Eli Kintisch discusses why scientists now believe economic change rather than climate change may explain the mysterious disappearance of Norse settlements on the frozen island.
