World Press Photo Multimedia Prize for 'Net Cafe Refugees' from 'Japan's Disposable Workers'

Pulitzer Center grantee Shiho Fukada won 3rd Prize Long Feature in the World Press Photo's 2015 Multimedia Contest for "Net Cafe Refugees," a chapter from Japan's Disposable Workers, her multimedia documentary supported by the Pulitzer Center and MediaStorm.

Much of the world used to look at Japan's economy with admiration and jealousy; now they wonder what went wrong. In her Pulitzer Center-supported project Japan's Disposable Workers, Fukada documents the lives of modern disposable workers in Japan in stories that illustrate the global unemployment crisis and the growing gap between rich and poor that has provoked much turmoil. The documentary also was a Vimeo staff pick.

MediaStorm also won 1st Prize Long Feature for "The Long Night," focusing on the crisis of minors who are forced and coerced into the American sex trade.
