Fragile States and Our Communities: Part 3

Author:
SECTIONS

Part 3:

Communicate your ideas effectively with diverse audiences.

Objective:

1. Use technology to communicate and publish your ideas and reflections on fragile states effectively.

2. Read Slave to Terror by Emily Feldman, or chose to read another article from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting's Fragile States Project Page.

3. Discuss the story in groups of 2 or 3.

4. Compose a thoughtful and well-written comment on the article. Teacher approves or posts your edited comments. Consider:

  • Who is the audience for the article and comments most likely to be? What does that mean for your composition?
  • What is a summary of the most important information learned from the article. What is the connection to fragile states?
  • Why is this information important? Why should people care?
  • What questions do you have?
  • Do you have any other positive comments for the author?

4. Post, with your teacher to comments section under the article on the Pulitzer Cente page.

5. Decide, with your teacher, if there are any other appropriate places you would like to publish your work (if you have a class wiki or blog, a link to Twitter, etc.).
