Deborah Bloom is a freelance journalist based in Atlanta, Georgia. She covers stories about culture, gender and the environment, and her work has appeared in CNN, Voice of America, Agence France-Presse, and others.

Her story chronicles Kenyan activist Phyllis Omido's dangerous fight against industrial pollution and its effects on a densely populated village outside Mombasa. It was published on World Environment Day: June 5, 2018.
