Pulitzer Center grantee Negar Azimi sifts through the vexing, perplexing landscape of low-wage migrant labor in the Gulf, with a particular focus on a group of artist-activists who have cast a fresh light on abuses as new museums and universities are built in the region. Along the way, she visits Kerala, in southern India, one of the epicenters of the so-called "Gulf Boom."

In this "Meet the Journalist" video, Negar introduces us to the characters, complexities, and stakes involved when speaking for and about the fates of migrant laborers; very often, the narrative is more than a simple one about victims and perpetrators.
