In many ways this century already belongs to the city. By 2050, it is anticipated that an additional 2.7 billion people will live in metropolitan regions—the ecological fate of the planet is bound to their future. The Megacity Initiative is a new media venture that seeks to illuminate this process through a film, interactive exhibitions, art interventions, educational curricula, journalism series, and an integrated digital platform.

Matthew Niederhauser and John Fitzgerald talk about how the Megacity Initiative journalism series seeks to highlight the efforts of activists, urbanists, and other organizations working on the cutting edge of participatory design, community development and progressive city planning.
