Investigative projects editor Dave Harmon explains why The Texas Tribune decided to send reporters to the Texas-Mexico border this summer to cover the ongoing saga of undocumented immigrants separated from their children after a "zero tolerance" policy began. In this fast-changing story, basic information has been difficult to obtain from official sources and telling immigrants' stories requires ingenuity and tenacity.
