Please join the Pulitzer Center on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 6:30pm EDT for a virtual film screening featuring the short documentary After Landing.

The film, directed by 2023 Columbia University Reporting Fellows Beibei Liu and Mayara Teixeira, follows couple Jorge and Jeczebel in the months after they immigrated to the United States from Venezuela via the dangerous Darién Gap. After a bus takes them from Texas to New York City, Jorge and Jeczebel are faced with finding housing, securing a job, and starting over in an unfamiliar city.

A conversation with filmmakers Liu and Teixeira will follow the virtual screening. The conversation will then open up to questions from audience members during a Q&A session.

Panelists:

  • Beibei Liu is a journalist and documentary filmmaker from China. She graduated with honors from the documentary program at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. She has produced video stories for national and local news outlets, including Beijing News, KBIA, and Xinhua News.
  • Mayara Teixeira is a Brazilian journalist specializing in covering human rights stories. She worked at Rede Globo, the largest media company in Latin America, for seven years, covering stories worldwide. She was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a specialization in documentary at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York, and graduated in August 2023.

This virtual screening is free and open to the public; registration is required.
