Pulitzer Center grantee, photojournalist, and documentary filmmaker Michael O. Snyder will visit Southern Illinois University at Carbondale via Zoom on October 24, 2023. He will visit a photojournalism course and speak with students about finding and developing stories, the ethics of access, and his Center-supported project, The Queens of Queen City.

Snyder is an assistant professor of photojournalism at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications. His work has been featured in National Geographic. He is a Portrait of Humanity Award winner, a Climate Journalism fellow at the Bertha Foundation, and resident artist at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Queens of Queen City portrays drag culture and the legacy and future of an LGBTQ+ community in the struggling Appalachian town of Cumberland, Maryland.
