'The Abominable Crime' by Common Good Productions.

The Caribbean Equality Project (CEP) screens the award-winning film, The Abominable Crime, at its launch event "UNVEIL," on Saturday, August 8, at Queens Museum in New York.

The Abominable Crime is a Pulitzer Center-supported, award-winning documentary by filmmaker Micah Fink that explores the culture of homophobia in Jamaica through the eyes of gay Jamaicans who are forced to choose between their homeland and their lives after their sexual orientations are exposed.

With screenings like this, CEP hopes to introduce the public to the profound personal struggles faced by the Caribbean LGBTQ community in New York City and beyond.

Following the screening is a discussion with Fink and human rights lawyer Maurice Tomlinson, a subject of the film who was forced to flee Jamaica. A reception, hosted by the Pulitzer Center, will follow.

The screening is part of "UNVEIL," the day-long launch celebration of the Caribbean Equality Project (CEP) to highlight the organization's budding spectrum of programs and services, specifically focusing on the needs of the Caribbean-based Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community in New York City. Using a combination of multimedia videos, storytelling and panel discussions, CEP will introduce the public to the profound personal struggles faced by the Caribbean LGBTQ community in New York City, and by extension the Caribbean territories. See the full line-up of performers and the full schedule for the day.

The CEP was founded by Mohamed Q. Amin, Krishna Ramsarran and Andy K. Bishun, all individuals who faced multiple levels of discrimination, misunderstanding, and never-ending obstacles throughout the years. Amin founded CEP "in order to be more impactful educating residents about the unique culture, history and concerns of the Caribbean LGBTQ community in New York City," according the CEP's press release announcing the launch event.
