Chery started his journalism career as a student at City College of New York, reporting for The Campus. He later wrote for First Touch, a local soccer league in New York, and Elite Sports New York before joining The Haitian Times in 2019. Chery covered Haitian communities through the COVID-19 pandemic as a general assignment reporter, touching on subjects ranging from COVID-19 to immigration.

In 2021, Chery joined the selective Report for America program to cover Haitians in South Florida for The Haitian Times.
