Richard Bernstein, a former reporter, culture critic, and foreign correspondent at TIME Magazine and The New York Times, has been a journalist and writer for 40 years. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Review of Books, Foreign Policy, the Wall Street Journal, and The Atlantic. He is also the author of nine books, most recently China 1945: Mao's Revolution and America's Fateful Choice.
