Iran Cedeño visits his father’s grave at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx, New York. Image by Kyle Cristello. United States, 2021.

Filmmaker Kyle Cristello explores the difficulties a family faces after the death of a loved one during a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic. Cristello lost his beloved grandmother right as the first outbreak of COVID-19 commenced. In this short film, he documents the life and death of Bolivar Cedeño, the father of his close friend Iran Cedeño. Bolivar passed away last summer after a long battle with cancer.

Now the man of the house, Iran must take care of himself and his family while holding the memories of his father dear to him. Through time spent with Iran and Bolivar's closest family and friends who live in the Dominican Republic, Cristello explores what it's like to lose a loved one during a time when loved ones are needed most.

This project is dedicated to everyone who has lost someone special over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.
