This project looks at the efforts being made across India—from government, media, and tech companies—to address the issue of disinformation spreading on social media and messaging platforms. Focusing on India, Timothy McLaughlin examines how viral messages spread on WhatsApp have been blamed for around two dozen incidents of deadly mob violence in the summer of 2018.
