Grantee Ben Solomon's VR film, 'The Fight for Fallujah,' was one of the first VR experiences to be shot in a war zone. Iraq, 2016.

"The Fight for Falluja," the VR film accompanying The New York Times Magazine's special issue, "Fractured Lands: How the Arab World Came Apart," is now available for viewing on The New York Times VR app. Although not required, the film is best experienced using Google's Cardboard VR viewer, or a compatible headset. It is also available on Facebook.

In "The Fight for Falluja," Solomon transports the viewer to the Iraqi city of Falluja and the heart of the campaign against ISIS. One of the first VR experiences ever filmed in an active war zone, Solomon's film represents a bold new chapter for digital journalism.
