In the commune of Gatara, Kayanza Province, the reduction in the average size of a farm per household is a source of land conflicts. According to Professor Aloys Ndayisenga, a geographer by training and lecturer at the University of Burundi, Burundians are traditionally attached to the land and to children, and find that this behavior has led to multiple consequences, including land conflicts.
