On October 20 and 21, 2017, our 35 Pulitzer Center student fellows traveled to Washington, D.C., to present under-reported issues from 27 countries across the globe. Their stories covered some of today's most challenging topics, from the lasting impact of the Zika virus on Brazilian families to the lack of mental health support for Syrian refugees in Jordan.

As the fellows connected over their reporting experiences, they also had the chance to exchange ideas with 12 panelists—journalists and editors who addressed "The Way We Tell Stories" and "How to Pitch a Global Story." Our Friday evening speakers at the National Press Club included Matt Winkler, co-founder and former editor-in- chief of Bloomberg News, Linda Qiu, New York Times reporter and former Pulitzer Center student fellow; and Alice Su, freelance journalist based in Jordan and a Pulitzer Center grantee.

The result was a highly collaborative event that opened up new opportunities—and relationships—for everyone involved.
