Jaylin Ward

2021 REPORTING FELLOW

Jaylin Ward, from the Bronx, New York, is an interdisciplinary journalism major in the Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University. Ward’s undergraduate research focuses on the impact of enslavement, colonialism, and imperialism on Black identities in Panama.

Ward is a pioneer in the environmental liberation movement, which strives to identify climate change and environmental racism as symptoms of global racial capitalism with origins in European settler colonialism in the 15th century. Ward advocates for this historical framing through sculpting coalitions with environmental and climate advocacy journalists across the African diaspora through the nonprofit Generation Green.
