Dan Collyns is an award-winning multimedia journalist covering Latin America based in Lima, Peru. He reports on everything from food to freedom of speech but specializes in the environment, development, and human rights. He has been reporting for The Guardian for more than a decade from Peru and the region, as well as for the BBC, CGTN America, the Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF), and Mongabay, among others. 

Collyns is the founder and director of Yachay Productions. He won second place at the 2021 Overseas Press Club’s Robert Spiers Benjamin Award for best reporting in any medium on Latin America for a documentary that he co-directed called The Adventures of Wonder Woman: Inside Peru's War against Illegal Gold Mining. He is a nature lover and enjoys playing the bass, swimming, and surfing. 

This investigation supported by the Pulitzer Center will form part of wider research about illegal gold mining in the Amazon rainforest for a forthcoming book titled Blood Gold with the UK publisher Bloomsbury.
