Kameo Latortue

REPORTING FELLOW

Kameo Latortue was born in Brooklyn, New York, and is of Haitian descent. He has an identical twin brother, Romeo, and three younger sisters.

Latortue enrolled in Guttman Community College in fall 2022, and he currently has a 3.9 GPA. He hopes to transfer to New York University to earn his bachelor's in music business.

He is a recording artist and a member of the queer pop/R&B duo EHRIE, along with his brother. They have been writing, producing, recording, and performing original music since they were 9 years old.

Latortue also works at Union Beauty Salon as front desk coordinator.

He decided to apply for the Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellowship because he wants to use it to talk about an issue that's important to him: internalized homophobia and transphobia among Black gay men.

As a Black gay man, he hopes that his documentary will shed light on the issue and bring about change within the Black queer community.
