Cambodian Seafarers After a Kidnapping

Country:

Author:

Journalist Michael Scott Moore met four Cambodian men while they were all hostages in Somalia. Pirates placed him onboard their vessel, the Naham 3.

Moore was kidnapped in early 2012 on a reporting trip to Somalia and was held hostage by pirates for 32 months.

Until a Pulitzer Center-sponsored trip, Moore couldn't talk to the men through a Khmer interpreter. He went to Cambodia to learn about the men's recruitment into the Asian fishing industry, their language of trauma and recovery, and their fraught relationship with Somali pirates.
