Coronavirus and Health Inequity in Baltimore, MD

Author:

In the past two months, Baltimore has become a hotbed of coronavirus cases and deaths. While the disease has touched every demographic, communities of color and low-income populations have been hardest hit. From social isolation due to structured lockdowns, mounting job losses, and reduced access to healthcare, food, and public transit, the effects of COVID-19 have exposed and exacerbated the city’s egregious social and health inequities.

Using data, maps, and field-reported narratives, this project seeks to spotlight the evolution and spread of coronavirus through two racially and economically disparate neighborhoods in Baltimore and highlight the complexity and differences in how residents from each neighborhood cope with the outbreak.
