Niger's 15.8 million people are served by a sparse collection of medical professionals - about one doctor for every 30,000 people. Some doctors and nurses are Nigerien, trained to help their own; some are from surrounding African countries, and some come from the United States to work with the under-served. From small clinics such as the World Vision clinic near Dakoro in eastern Niger to larger hospitals like Galmi, the ill effects of malnutrition color healthcare routines and treatments.
