'1619' Education Impact Grant Planning Workshops

With the launch of The 1619 Education Impact Grants, the Pulitzer Center is calling for grant applications from education professionals for educational projects that utilize at least one resource from The 1619 Project to:
 

  • Improve the awareness and critical thinking of students and/or educators about the legacies of slavery in the contemporary United States, and the contributions of Black Americans to every aspect of U.S. society
  • Equip students and/or educators to take action and make change that advances racial justice
     

Proposals for this grant initiative should outline projects that reach at least 500 K-12 students or teachers by the end of 2024. Click here for a full grant description and link for submitting applications. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2024. 
 

To help education professionals prepare their proposals, the Pulitzer Center’s K-12 Education staff will host an online  “Ask & Apply” session. The session will be held via Zoom on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 6:30-7:30 pm ET and Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 pm ET 
 

This workshop will begin with an introduction to the goals and application process for the recently announced 1619 Education Impact Grant. The conversation will then address topics, approaches, scopes, and how to pitch a successful proposal.
 

Interested educators will learn more about the eligibility criteria for proposals and have their questions answered. They will also have the opportunity to workshop project ideas with Pulitzer Center staff and other attendees.
