Amanda Cowan

Amanda Cowan is a graduate of the University of Oregon and has been working as a full-time photojournalist since late 2000 at papers in Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. She is currently a photographer and photo editor for The Columbian in Vancouver, Wash., where she has been on staff since 2015. In 2017, she collaborated on her first book "Eclipse Chaser," which followed an international team of scientists studying the Great American Eclipse. The book will be released Dec. 10, 2019. She was recently awarded a Passion Project grant from the Society of Professional Journalists for her photo story, "A New Life," which follows the mental, physical and emotional transformation of a young woman through gastric sleeve surgery. In addition, she has been recognized multiple times by organizations such as the Associated Press, the National Press Photographers Association, Society for Professional Journalists, the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and the Hawaii Publishers Association.
