Ferdinand Mbonihankuye is a Burundian journalist and correspondent for SciDev.net. He has five years of experience in the media.

He started his career as a broadcast journalist before turning to blogging at yaga-Burundi.com and centrefordevelopmentgreatlakes.org in 2018 and 2019. A year later, he joined journalism again, this time in print media, Burundi Eco.

He is also a data journalist. He received training from InfoNile in partnership with Code For Africa. Mbonihankuye is the director of publications of the online newspaper ibihe.org.

In 2019, he was selected as a fellow of africanliberty.org, which allowed him to have experience in reporting on liberal economics. In 2021, he was selected as a fellow for the Young Journalist Training as part of the "Stronger Together for Climate" event. The training, delivered by Pioneers Post, aimed to develop solutions-based journalism skills and provide professional support to young journalists reporting on climate change.

In 2021, the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) awarded his  work submitted to a "Short Story Writing Competition" on the lives of smallholder farmers.

In addition, he was a recipient of an InfoNile Fellowship on the topic of "the pros and cons of generating electricity from the Nile Basin."
