A Tale of Two Villages

Authors:

Remote villages in western Alaska are locked in a desperate battle to protect their land against the ravages of climate change, as rising sea levels erode their land, forcing some villages to evacuate.

One of the worst affected areas is Shishmaref—a fishing village off the Alaskan mainland, just beneath the Arctic Circle—which has seen its coast fall into the sea at an alarming rate, prompting fears the village could vanish in ten years. Britian's Channel 4 News Washington correspondent Siobhan Kennedy reports on the struggle facing communities who stand to lose their land and their livelihoods.
